Terms of Service

Effective date: 9 October 2026
Operator: University of Tartu (registry code 74001073), Ülikooli 18, 50090 Tartu, Estonia ("Personomist", "we", "us"). Contact: info@personomist.com.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy (www.personomist.com/privacy), govern your use of Personomist. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. Please read them — we have written them to be understood without legal help. If you do not agree, please do not use Personomist.

1. What Personomist is. Personomist is an online self-understanding service: you complete questionnaires about your personality, mood, wellbeing, and related topics; you may invite people who know you well to describe you; and you receive results that combine these perspectives, including matches to occupations and roles. Organisations may use Personomist to collect and view results that individuals explicitly choose to share with them. The questionnaires and results are developed by qualified researchers using validated psychometric methods.

2. Who can use Personomist. You must be at least 16 years old to use the service. Personomist is designed and validated primarily for adults, so results may be less accurate for younger users. If you are below the age at which you can give consent on your own under the law of your country, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Accounts and sign-in links. You can use parts of the service without saving an account. You can save results with a private link or an email address. Inviting others and sharing results require an account with a verified email address. You sign in to that account through a personal sign-in link sent to your email. We do not use passwords. You are responsible for the accuracy of your email address and for keeping your sign-in links private: anyone who has your link while it is valid can reach your account. Private links carry the same responsibility. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has used your account.

4. Personomist is not medical or psychological advice. Personomist results — including mood and wellbeing scores — are for self-understanding and personal development. They describe normal personality traits within typical human variation; they are not a medical, psychological, or psychiatric diagnosis, assessment, treatment, or advice, and are no substitute for a qualified professional. Results are statistical, probabilistic predictions — general tendencies that hold "on average" rather than established facts about you — so do not rely on them alone for consequential decisions, for example about health, career, or relationships. If you are worried about your mental health, or are in crisis, contact your doctor or your local emergency or crisis services. Professionals may use Personomist as one tool among several, within their scope of practice, and never as the sole basis for a decision.

5. Inviting and describing others. When you invite friends, family, or colleagues to describe you, you confirm that you are content for them to answer questions about your personality or behaviour and that you will not pressure anyone to take part. When you describe someone else, you confirm that you genuinely know the person and answer honestly. Your individual answers are always combined with at least one other person's before the person you described sees any results. They are shown combined results, never your individual answers.

6. Acceptable use. You agree not to: give false information or misrepresent your identity; describe a person you do not know; try to identify individual describers from combined results; use software, bots, or artificial-intelligence tools to complete questionnaires about yourself or others; probe, scrape, overload, or otherwise interfere with the service; use the service to harass anyone or for any unlawful purpose; pressure anyone, directly or indirectly, into sharing their results; use results to discriminate unlawfully in employment or other decisions; or resell access without our written agreement.

7. Sharing, groups, and consent. You control what you share. Sharing your results with another person or an organisation requires your explicit consent for each request and each type of result. You can set how long a share stays active when you create it, and you can revoke access at any time. In group comparisons, joining a group means members can see each other's shared results; you can leave a group at any time to remove your data from it, and the group's owner can delete the group, ending access for everyone.

8. Organisations and professional use. If you connect with an organisation — for example by responding to its results request or rating a job profile — the organisation sees only what the service tells you it will see at the moment you confirm sharing. Organisations and professionals using Personomist agree to: use results only for the legitimate purpose communicated to participants; obtain appropriate consent before viewing results; never make anyone feel compelled to share; keep shared information confidential; treat results as one input among several; and comply with applicable employment, equality, and data-protection law.

9. Payments. Personomist is currently free to use. If we introduce paid or organisational plans in the future, the applicable fees and any refund and cancellation terms will be shown to you before they take effect, and any payment will be handled by a third-party payment provider — we do not store your full card details.

10. Research and development. We use anonymised data — which cannot be linked back to you — to improve our questionnaires, scoring, and predictive models and to develop new features. This is described further in the Privacy Policy. Aggregated and anonymised results do not identify you and may be retained for these purposes.

11. Your content and our content. Your questionnaire answers and results remain yours; you grant us the licence needed to process them to provide the service, as described in the Privacy Policy. The service itself — including questionnaires, scoring methods, texts, and visualisations — is owned by University of Tartu or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property law. You may use it for your personal, non-commercial purposes only, and may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse-engineer, or otherwise exploit it outside the service without our permission.

12. Availability and changes to the service. The service is provided "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it reliable and secure but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue features. We may update these Terms. If the changes are material, we will notify you by email or by a notice in the service. The effective date above shows the current version; if you continue using your account after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.

13. Termination. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time in your account settings; see the Privacy Policy for how deletion works. We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these Terms, act fraudulently or unlawfully, or create a security or legal risk. On termination your access ends and your data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy; anonymised data and other people's aggregated results are retained, and the sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, and liability continue to apply.

14. Liability. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the service, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us (if any) in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including your mandatory rights as a consumer.

15. Governing law and disputes. These Terms are governed by the laws of Estonia, and disputes fall to the courts of Estonia, without affecting the mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence. Please contact us first — we will try to resolve any issue informally.

16. General. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the service. If any provision is found invalid, the rest remain in effect. We may transfer these Terms as part of a reorganisation or transfer of the service; you may not transfer them without our consent.
